Founder of Expats in Wiesbaden

History & Purpose

Expats in Wiesbaden (EIW) was founded by Jane Ann Fosson, an American attorney and mom of three who became a virtual community organizer after experiencing her first government move as a civilian spouse.  The purpose of EIW is to consolidate the dispersed information needed by Americans who move to the area and to create an organized repository of the collective wisdom of the local expat community on a single platform.

Ownership & Management

EIW is privately owned and managed by Jane Ann Fosson.  EIW is not affiliated with or sponsored by the United States government, the United State Army, or any other governmental or business institution.  As such, EIW is intended to be used only as an unofficial informational resource for American expats living in Wiesbaden.  EIW users and members must always verify both the accuracy and applicability of any information shared on this website or through EIW communication channels with official sources.  Such verification is particularly important because information changes quickly, and rules, regulations, and benefits vary significantly from one expat to another, depending on the terms and conditions of their employment.

Why Join?

Americans who move to Wiesbaden face a number of obstacles in getting answers to even some of the most basic questions.  From language and cultural barriers, to the fact that many answers are rooted in international law, German law, or the U.S. or German tax code, self-directed research is time-consuming and often unsuccessful.  The resulting information gaps experienced by expats have real-life consequences, including incurring avoidable financial costs, unintended legal or tax mistakes, or simply missing out on desired social or cultural experiences.  Expats who know how to connect with their community quickly and deeply are more successful at navigating the myriad of challenges that come with living abroad.  EIW equips American expats with the information and resources they need to get oriented and engaged quickly so they can spend less time scouring the internet and crowdsourcing for information and more time making memories.  To learn more how you can support EIW’s mission by becoming a member, click here.
